THE RIVERS SCHOOL PRIVACY POLICY 

The Rivers School (“Rivers” or “us” or “we” or “our”) owns and operates the RIVERS.ORG website located at https://www.rivers.org/ (the “Site”). Rivers’ privacy practices with respect  to the Site are explained in this privacy policy (the “Policy”). Your privacy is important to us  and we take important steps to protect the privacy and security of your information.  

This Policy covers only the Site identified above. Other online locations may have their own  privacy policies, and you should consult those accordingly. This Policy only applies to  information we collect from you through the Site. Other websites or online services, including  any social media platforms or other third-party services you use to interact with Rivers, may  have their own privacy policies and you should consult those policies accordingly. 

This Policy is effective as of: April 11, 2023. 

Policy changes

Rivers may update this Policy from time to time. You should periodically check this Policy for  any changes. The changes will be immediately incorporated into this Policy. Your continued use  of the Site after any changes are made to this Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.  If any of the changes are unacceptable to you, you should cease using the Site. 

When do we collect information?

Personally identifiable information (“PII”) is generally defined as information that can be used or  combined with other information to identify an individual, or to get access to a person’s  accounts. PII can include name, address, telephone number, email address and other online  identifiers, username and password, payment or financial information, and business information.  

There are areas on the Site where you may be asked to provide PII, or where such PII or other  information may be collected from you in an automated manner. For example, the above  categories of PII (and other related information) may be collected from you when you: register  on our Site; fill out a form on the Site; request materials or services through the Site; order and  pay for products and services through the Site; make a donation; contact us with questions or  comments; respond to a survey or marketing communication; and/or subscribe to a newsletter.  

By providing to Rivers the PII and other information referenced above, you agree that Rivers  may use the PII and other information in accordance with the terms of this Policy. 

How do we use your information?

Rivers may use the information we collect from you to: personalize your experience and deliver  content and product offerings in which you are most interested; respond to your requests; maintain proper business records and other relevant records; to provide ongoing technical  support; process your transactions through the Site; ask for ratings and reviews of services; follow up with you after correspondence; communicate with you about additional uses of your  PII beyond the scope of this list; administer a promotion, conduct a survey; inquire about other Site features; send you Rivers newsletters and other updates; perform internal Site operations (e.g., fraud prevention); troubleshoot software issues and operational problems with the Site; conduct data analysis and testing; and/or monitor Site usage.

Do we use “cookies”?

Yes. Cookies are files that are transmitted to your computer when you visit a website to  recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. Cookies are also used to  help us understand your preferences. We also use cookies to help us compile aggregate data  about Site traffic and Site interaction so that we can offer better Site experiences and tools in the  future. You may be able to disable cookies by consulting your browser and/or computer settings.  Please note that disabling cookies could affect how the Site appears and/or operates for you. 

Google

We may use Google services (e.g., GoogleDocs, GoogleSurvey, Gmail) in conjunction with our  Site. Google’s services might include cookies or other analytics to compile data regarding user  interactions with ad impressions and other ad service functions as they relate to our Site. Third-Party Disclosure/Sharing of PII and Other Information 

Except as noted herein, Rivers does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your  PII unless we provide you with advance notice. However, non-personally identifiable visitor  information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses. 

Rivers may share certain portions of PII and other information with its vendors in order to make  the Site and Site-related services function properly. This may include sharing PII with our  website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our  business, or serving our users. 

Rivers may also release your PII or other information if it reasonably believes its release is  appropriate to comply with the law or to cooperate with a governmental or law enforcement  investigation. Rivers may also share PII or other information in order to enforce our Site policies,  or to protect Rivers’ or others’ rights, property or safety. 

Your rights and choices

If you would like to review, edit or delete any PII that Rivers has collected from you, or wish  Rivers to cease using your PII in the manners specified in this Policy, please contact us at  communications@rivers.org
Please note that Rivers will do its best to accommodate your request, but Rivers cannot guarantee  it can remove all PII from the specified uses. Therefore, please be as specific as possible in your  request. If the request relates to information that Rivers needs to make the Site function properly  for you, you may not be able to use the Site properly moving forward.  

If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future promotional emails, you can  email us at communications@rivers.org. You may also follow the instructions at the bottom of  each email and we will promptly remove you from ALL correspondence.  

Rivers does not recognize or process “do not track” or similar technical requests.

How do we protect and retain your information?

Our Site is checked on a regular basis for security holes in order to make your visit to our Site as  safe as reasonably possible. We implement a variety of security measures when a user enters,  submits, or accesses their information to maintain the safety of your PII. Your PII is contained  behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special  access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition,  all sensitive/credit information you supply is encrypted. 

Rivers does not ask for credit card numbers outside of secure payment forms. All transactions are  processed through a gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers. 

While Rivers takes the issue of protecting your PII seriously, you should exercise discretion in  what information you disclose and/or transmit to the Site. Rivers cannot guarantee that  information sent over the Internet is fully secure, as it may be intercepted by others before it  reaches Rivers. If you are concerned about sending information to Rivers over the Internet,  please send the information by mail or call us to make other arrangements. Rivers is not  responsible for the security of information sent over the Internet. 

Rivers retains collected information for a reasonable amount of time in order to fulfill the stated  purpose for why the information was collected. Rivers also will retain collected information  connected to business records for periods of time required by law. Our collection times will be  consistent with applicable law.  

Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for individuals 18 years of age and older located in the United States,  although Rivers may collect certain PII and other data offline from students and prospective  students who are under 18 in connection with the administration of our nonprofit educational  programs, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic programs, and other  school-administered programs. 

The Site is not directed at, marketed to, or intended for anyone under 13 years of age.  

Rivers does not and will not knowingly collect or request any information, including PII, from  minors under the age of 13 on or through the Site, nor is the Site directed at or intended for 
minors. No one under the age of 13 is authorized to use the Site, and no one under 13 is  permitted to provide any information on or through the Site without the verified consent of such  child’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s). If you are under 13 years of age, DO NOT: use or provide  any information on or through the Site; use any of the Site’s features; use any interactive or  public commenting feature on the Site; and/or provide any information about yourself to Rivers  over the Internet. 

If Rivers learns that we have received PII on or through the Site from any person under 13 years  of age without the appropriate consent of that person’s parent(s) or guardian(s), Rivers will  delete that information. If you are a parent or legal guardian of a child under the age of 13 and believe your child may have uploaded or posted information through the Site inadvertently or  without authorization and such information is publicly available, or if you believe Rivers might  otherwise have unauthorized information from or about any person under 13, please contact us at  communications@rivers.org to request that such information be removed from public viewing. 

Any removal of content by Rivers does not ensure or guarantee complete or comprehensive removal of the content in all places. The content may have been shared or reposted by other  parties, or federal or state law may require maintenance of the content or information.

Non-U.S. Concerns

The Site is meant for individuals within the United States. Rivers only knowingly collects  information from individuals within the United States. If you provide information to Rivers from  outside of the United States, you do so at your own risk. If you are outside of the United States,  you are responsible for complying with any local laws regarding use of the Site, and related data  collection. You also agree and acknowledge that by providing any information, including PII,  through the Site, that such information will be transmitted to, and stored in, the United States. 

Third-party links
Rivers may identify or offer third-party products or services on our Site. This includes links to  third-party sites that are not controlled by Rivers and have separate and independent privacy  policies. We have no responsibility or liability for the content, activities, privacy practices and  data collection policies of these linked sites. You should consult the privacy policies of those  sites for details. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our Site and welcome any  feedback about these third-party sites.
