Carter Meyer ’28 leads all of New England in scoring with 37 goals, 26 assists, and 63 points in 24 games. He reached the 100-point milestone for his career in yesterday’s big win over St. Mark’s, an almost unheard-of milestone for an underclassman. Justin Graf ’26 is ranked seventh with 12 goals, 36 assists, and 48 points in 24 games. Finn Sears ‘28, ranks eighth with 21 goals, 26 assists, and 47 points overall.
A top story this season is a trio of ninth-graders featuring Meyer, Sears, and Sam Pandolfo ’28. Collectively known as
the freshman line, these offensive players are key components of the Rivers offense, with a combined score of 142 points.
In a
February 14 article published in
The Boston Globe, coach Freddy Meyer IV P ‘27, ’28, a former NHL player and father of Carter Meyer and sophomore defenseman Freddy Meyer V, praised the strong group of freshmen: “We’ve got Carter, Finn, and Sam. When you pass to them, it’s going to help you because you know they are going to put it in the back of the net.”
First with the Boston Junior Eagles (a premier youth hockey club in New England), and now with Rivers–Meyer, Sears, and Pandolfo have been playing together for many years and are now one of the most powerful offensive lines in New England. “Those three guys are just different,” said Coach Meyer. “They’ve really elevated their game.”
Building on the coverage in the
Globe, a recent
New England Hockey Journal video feature described the freshman stars as “the trio of ninth-graders who are fueling a run by The Rivers School into the upper echelons of prep school hockey.”
Another key contributor to this mighty team is JP Montgomery ’28, adding another layer of depth to the team at Rivers. His father, Jim Montgomery–former Bruins coach and current Blues head coach–noted to the Globe: “Prep school hockey is another tier above. We’ve been really happy with the experience academically, socially, and athletically.”
Rivers hockey, equipped with a competitive and dominating offense, is primed for a successful post-season. Congratulations, and go Red Wings!
