Registration Open for Summer Programs

It’s never too early to plan for summer, and Rivers has a variety of programs to keep students engaged and challenged throughout those lazy days. Registration is now open for Rivers’ 2018 Academic Programs, Music at Rivers, Camp Nonesuch, and Rivers Day Camp on the program website at www.summeratrivers.org.

This year, Rivers is offering more options in its exciting Academic Programs, with the addition of a summer “mini-term”—a selection of seven half-day programs during the last two weeks of June. Students can spend the morning creating video games with code and the afternoon in the ceramics studio exploring alternative techniques. Other mini-courses include Art Through Technology; Data Analytics; Field Methods in Environmental Science; Mindfulness, Literature, and Yoga; and Woodworking.

On-site courses, which are offered at various times throughout the summer include Algebra Boot Camp, Business Planning: Entrepreneurship in Action, Computer Programming, Physics Boot Camp, Writing Workshop. For those who are happy to be arm-chair learners, online courses include Experiential Writing, New Media & Digital Identity, and Topics in Economics. All courses are taught by Rivers faculty, with the exception of the Entrepreneurial course which is taught by Greg Stoller ’87, a senior lecturer at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.

Rivers’ two day camps are located on—and take full advantage of—Nonesuch Pond. Camp Nonesuch is an elective-based summer camp experience for children who have completed grades 1 through 8. Campers choose from a wide variety of activities for each two-week session, including arts and crafts, sports, waterfront activities, group games, and performing arts. Rivers Day Camp is a traditional day camp offering a range of activities for children ages 3.5-15, including field sports, court sports, waterfront activities, arts and crafts, and nature crafts.

The Rivers School Conservatory offers three summer programs in addition to private music lessons. Summer Music at Rivers is a two-week summer program for students entering grades 3-12. Students participate in chamber music, large ensembles, music theory, performance class, lunch, recreation, and four private lessons per session. Summer Jazz is a two-week immersion into jazz studies for students entering grades 3-12. Students participate in daily combo rehearsals, improv class, masterclasses, electives, lunch, and recreation. Summer Orchestra is a week-long morning program for talented young string players. There are multiple orchestra levels to accommodate beginner through advanced students.
