This week Rivers announced the appointment of new head football coach Dan Keohane, who most recently served as an assistant coach at Bentley College.

Keohane amassed a long list of accomplishments as the head football coach for fourteen years at Waltham High School, where he compiled a 101-31-1 record and took two teams to M.I.A.A. Bowl Games. While at Waltham he was recognized as a Boston Globe Football Coach of the Year and a Massachusetts Football Referee Association Football Coach of the Year.

“Coach Keohane is a highly qualified and passionate coach who understands not only who we are, but also what is needed to provide our football players with a quality experience,” said athletic director Jim McNally. “He is a proven professional educator who understands kids, knows how to motivate and communicate with them, and makes their needs his priority.”

Keohane takes the reins of a strong Rivers football program that this past year went undefeated during the regular season and earned a postseason bowl berth at Gillette Stadium.

“This is not just a great football program but a great school,” said Keohane. “From my first moments on campus I’ve really felt at home. I’m eager to coach a successful team and continue Rivers’ winning ways.”

Keohane replaces Rich Fisher, who accepted an assistant coaching position at the University of Nebraska last month.
